Bar review: Scoop on Ann Siang Road, Singapore

Scoop's awesome bar

Set in a quirky shophouse on Ann Siang Road, Scoop is the newest addition to the group behind popular haunts Bartini and Hombre Cantina. Dubbed a “journalist bar”, media industry members need simply flash a business card to enjoy one-for-one drinks and special deals. Everyone else can enjoy happy hour daily from 5pm to 8pm.

Aside from the usual suspects, what stands out by far are Scoop’s cocktails, served in charming “hipster” jar glasses. The Jar of Hearts ($20) – Courvoisier, amaretto, lemon and sugar and shaken with a dash of egg white, is one of their signature drinks. Also worth trying is the Midnight Oil ($20), a combo of vodka, apple juice, Midori and 28Black; the classic Mojito ($18) also deserves a mention.

The food menu has a tongue-in-cheek spin, too, and includes a range of tasty bar snacks. Don’t miss out on the Hot Off The Press hand-made pizzas ($20 each) or the Exclusive Poutine Fries ($8) – a generous bucket of cheesy, salty goodness and a great pairing with boozy cocktails. Strictly Classified Mac & Cheese ($12) with truffle paste is rich enough to satisfy even the most die-hard cheese lover.
