Funky graffiti-style murals at Nickeldime Drafthouse

Beer lovers rejoice, Nickeldime Drafthouse sells 15 craft beers on tap alongside a beer-laced menu in a laid-back, industrial-chic diner opposite Novena Square.

Enjoy up-cycled wooden slate-cladded walls, suspended naked light bulbs and a giant beer-guzzling octopus mural as you work your way through the ever-changing beer menu.

First-timers to the bar (and I’m far from a beer expert) can choose five different beers to taste as a flight ($25) and decide which best tickles their taste buds. Once you’ve settled on your favourite, choose between drinking an adorably miniature one-third pint, a half pint or full pint ($7 to $14).

To accompany the beers, try the stout-braised beef ragout ($13), or salami and fresh chilli pizza ($18) featuring a beer-infused crust. While this might sound like hops overkill, it really works and the food is tasty.

A perfect post-work joint, Nickeldime has a weekly changing beer menu, which means you’ll need to go back again and again to see what’s on offer. Stuck for a Christmas gift? Grab a Beer Growler ($29.90); these two-litre glass or ceramic containers can be filled up with your favourite beer and given as a gift.
