House of Dandy
74 Tras Street
Calling all dandies and quaintrelles (female dandies)! House of Dandy, modelled on an old British gentlemen’s club, positions itself as high-end bar for the impeccably dressed – no bowties required, though. Décor-wise there are aviator leather loungers and gold barstools, plus a certain British tongue-in-cheek-ness with the Pop Art elements.
On the cocktail menu is a mix of old classics and new concoctions. Award-winning mixologist Zac Mirza (of Nektar) draws inspiration from his childhood favourite sour sweets for the Dandy Warhol and then dabbles with Asian flavours of lemongrass, ginger and kaffir lime in the Dandy Threesome ($22). Or do what we did and ask Zac to mix you up something on the spot. Looking dandy himself in a smart shirt and braces, he happily tells us the nutritional benefits of what he’s shaking (a blueberry-based cocktail called Back in Thyme, $20) – and, no, the alcohol does not cancel out the vitamins and minerals, he answers with a wink.
We hear there will soon be bar snacks: cold cut platters, oysters and gourmet hotdogs. (Just don’t go and spill mustard on your dandiest suit.)
Cocktails are $10 during “Dandy Hour”, 5pm to 8pm on weekdays.
