Balinese spa getaway in Batam

6th January 2020 by Lindsay Yap 4 Min Read

For a change of pace and scenery, enjoy a spa session (or two… at their prices) just a short ferry ride from Singapore. The Tea Tree Spa at Holiday Inn Resort Batam is a great spot for a couples’ getaway, short break with Mum or a day trip with girlfriends. Along with a Balinese theme and Indonesian hospitality, here’s what else you can expect at the spa.

Getting there

It’s easy to get to the resort; just hop on a ferry for the leisurely 45-minute cruise, followed by a five- or 20-minute car ride, depending on where your ferry arrives. Waterfront City Ferry Terminal is the closer option; or you can also choose to arrive at Sekupang International Ferry Terminal – both options are available when booking. Once you arrive, the resort’s concierge will be waiting for you with the hotel shuttle (all guests enjoy complimentary two-way transfers).

The spa

Holiday Inn Resort Batam is home to the first Tea Tree Spa among the brand’s properties and was set up 18 years ago. Tea Tree was recently awarded Best Four-Star Hotel Spa by the Indonesian Tourism Board. Whether you’re visiting with friends, as a couple or with the family, there are loads of traditional treatments and therapies to try. These range from full-body massages and head massages to foot reflexology, scrubs, facials and hair spas. Select them on an à la carte basis or in special packages of different durations.

What’s on offer?

There are various spa getaway packages to choose from, whether you’re up for a day trip, an overnight stay or something longer.

If you’re tight for time, a great option is the Rejuvenating Day Trip Package ($185 per person) – it comes with a green tea scrub, Balinese massage, scalp and head acupressure massage with coconut oil, and facial. After your spa sesh, you’ll also get to enjoy an Indonesian lunch set at Terrace Cafe, the hotel’s all-day dining restaurant. There’s also the Ultimate Relaxation Spa Package ($195 per person), a two-day, one-night stay that includes a night in a one-bedroom suite (plus breakfast) and a two-hour spa session with an avocado scrub, Javanese massage and face massage. For both packages, ferry tickets and shuttle services are part of the price.

Already settled your stay and looking for other spa options? The Soulmate Package ($169 per couple) and Natural Healing Package ($88 per person) both come with a hot stone massage to target tension and stress. Mums and mums-to-be can also enjoy pregnancy and post-natal massages.

For little ones

Good news: children aren’t left out! Tea Tree Spa offers kid-friendly massages and scrubs suitable for ages five to 12. These gentle treatments are a great way to introduce your young ones to the wonders of the spa. There’s also the Like Daughter Like Mother Package (Javanese massage) for mums and kids, and body scrubs with chocolate and strawberry flavours. And, if they’re not keen or still too little to join in the fun, drop them off at the Panda Kids Club close by, which has loads of toys and activities to keep children entertained.

The experience

Decked out in traditional Balinese style, the resort’s spa is located in a separate area of its own, away from the rooms, pool and lobby. When you arrive, you’ll be ushered to the reception and sitting area to have your pre-spa consultation and a refreshing drink. Then you can enjoy your treatment in one of the spa villas; there are eight single villas and six for couples. Passing through the main entrance decorated with beautiful carvings, you’ll come to a pavilion with a jacuzzi that you can indulge in before or after your treatment. There’s also a sauna and steam room that’s open to all hotel guests.

A wooden doorway leads into each spa villa, revealing a walled courtyard with a jacuzzi tub and curtain-drawn treatment space with traditional wood furniture and batik textiles. The spaces are completely private, and comfortably dim and cool – in short, they’re set up for ultimate relaxation. Each villa also comes with a bathroom and shower. Your treatment begins with a relaxing foot bath with sea salt, cinnamon and ginger powder.

Staying the night

The hotel’s suite rooms are spacious, with separate living and dining spaces. Besides the one-bedroom suite, there’s a two-bedroom suite that’s ideal for families and friends, as it comes with an ensuite king bedroom, twin bedroom and common bathroom. For those travelling with kids, choose the two-bedroom suite with a kids’ bedroom. Specially decorated for young ones, the room is fitted out with colourful bedding and toys to play with. These rooms are located on the ground floor, allowing easy access to the pool and other entertainment options.

Looking for something to do before or after your spa session? Along with several swimming pools, the hotel has a tennis court, full-equipped fitness centre, games room, playground and bikes to ride. You can also arrange to have a fun paintball session or time at the low elements course.

The hotel has various F&B outlets on-site. Besides having international and local fare at the Terrace Cafe, enjoy Cantonese dishes and dim sum at Dragon Inn Chinese Restaurant and Japanese cuisine at Akatonbo Teppanyaki. You can also head to the Sports Lounge for some tipples.
