Making the most of your balcony

13th March 2020 by Rebecca Bisset 3 Min Read

Make the most of your outdoor living space here even if you only have a small balcony or patio. You’ll miss Singapore’s warm balmy nights and sun-drenched mornings when you’re back in a ‘normal’ climate! To help with the makeover, some good balcony furniture and cool accessories are a must.

Transform your balcony into a great living space

With so many apartments being ‘compact’ (to put it nicely!), it makes sense to turn whatever outdoor area you have into a living space. Collections that are smaller and have neat flexible configurations can help maximise this space.

Let’s get the area looking and feeling good in materials that aren’t going to get mouldy, be bleached by the sun, or get stained from red wine spills! You can buy cheap, but you’ll pay more in the end.

Next, you need to decide whether you want a couple of comfy chairs for sundowners, a small table for morning coffees or if you can fit in a nice L-shaped sofa. Outdoor lighting is important, too, and you may be able to squeeze in some good-looking planters. (Those dead plants in old pots really do need to go!) There are also practical floor coverings available if the tiles are a bit grotty. And you may want to get a screen or blind to block off nosy neighbours or other people’s clothes racks.

Let’s look at some outdoor furniture options first

The range at OHMM is handcrafted in the store’s own factory in Cebu, in the Philippines. The fibres used in the pieces are by Rehau – they’re manufactured with renowned German engineering know-how and production technology. The fabrics are by Sunbrella, a trusted name worldwide when it comes to high-performance, long-lasting outdoor materials. Those are just a couple of signs that you’ll be getting a product that will stand up to the elements.

You can also customise the finishing colours (fibre and fabrics) to suit you and your space. OHMM has developed an exclusive FastDry cushion technology which allows you to leave them out all the time. It doesn’t matter if they get wet if the rain comes in; the foam cores will stay dry and the fabric covers dry out fast too. And, if you want to change the look sometimes, you can buy sets in different colours.

Lighting: The store’s lanterns come in five sizes and are rechargeable and fully waterproof. These outdoor LED lights have remote controls and are suitable for hanging or placing on the ground.

#1 The team at OHMM offers free design advice where they’ll suggest various collections and colours that they feel will work better in your space.

#2 The White Glove Delivery service means no-stress delivery at a time that suits you; they’ll unwrap items, arrange placement and even remove the packaging.

We hope this helps with creating your own perfect outdoor space no matter how small. And, if you have happen to be thinking of something on a grander scale, OHMM are also stars on the big stage, having worked on large projects like hotels and resorts, condos and cruises, including collaborations with The Fullerton Hotel, Marina Bay Sands and The Four Seasons Group.
