The school bell is about to ring for a new year, but if you’re missing a couple of back-to-school supplies, don’t worry. We’ve narrowed down our favourite shops for unique goodies that’ll send your kiddos to the top of the class.
When it comes to choosing shoes for your children, comfort always tops the list. Ten Feet Tall is a company founded by two expat mums who struggled to find quality school shoes for their children here in Singapore. They have carefully selected a wide range of boys and girls school shoes for 3-18 year olds, from leading European brands Start-rite, Ricosta and Petasil. With 6000 pairs in stock you won’t need to worry about ordering online or shopping for shoes abroad any longer.
Passionate about properly measuring and fitting shoes to protect growing feet, Ten Feet Tall has also appointed Helen Crawford, from the Osteopathy and Podiatry Centre, as their consulting podiatrist. Drop by their newly opened fitting studio in Holland Village Shopping Centre and don’t forget to bring along any old pairs of school shoes; Ten Feet Tall has a School Shoe Bank where they’ll polish, pack and send used shoes to children in other parts of Asia who really need them.
Located at Tanglin Mall and Pasarbella, The Children’s Showcase stocks a versatile selection of back-to-school goodies like Nailmatic, a non-toxic, kid-safe nail polish that’s easily removed with warm water, and the unique bounce-on-water Waboba balls from Sweden. We’ve got our eye on the brightly patterned retro penny skateboards, which would make the perfect gift (or mode of transport!) for the active kiddo.

Scooting to the school gates? We recommend the Micro scooters from White and Black Trading, designed for children aged one to 12. The official Micro distributor offers a range of scooters, accessories and spare parts. Younger kids (1-6 years old) can go for the Mini Micro scooter ($130) while 12 and ups can opt for the Micro Speed Plus ($235) scooter, which has shock-absorbing features and can take up to 100kg in load.
We can’t get over the adorable designs from personalised gift shop Stuck on You – you’ll be spoilt for choice with the range of colours (pastels included!), fonts and goods available. From different types of bags and stationery to bottles and clothing, there’s really nothing that this shop can’t put a name on. If you’re unsure about where to start, try the custom-made name labels, which includes a personal photo – how cool is that?
Another spot to look out for when shoe-shopping with your kids is The Shoe Co., where you’ll find a good selection of school kicks that are both comfortable and stylish. Besides smart black shoes of varying cuts and styles, this shop also offers casual options like sandals and sneakers for both boys and girls.
