An Asian sailing team has won the EUROCOPTER Ambassadors’ Cup for the first time in the competition’s history.
The Cambodian Team led by H. E. Sin Serey on team boat ‘Shardana’, saw off strong competition from 42 other teams to take the 14th edition of the event organized by Changi Sailing Club, which took place in blistering hot sun and shifting winds.
Turkey, skippered by Thomas Leow on ‘Tom Cat’, came second, and Denmark’s ‘Petit Bateau’ boat skippered by Esben Poulsson completed the podium places.
Racing started in strong tide and a light breeze, but sailing conditions deteriorated as a storm began to build in from the north east, making it extremely challenging for the competitors to make headway back towards the finish mark.
However, the diversity of the conditions and challenging weather made for an exciting regatta, and it turned out to be one of the best day’s sailing in Singapore in recent memory.
