Permanent armpit fat and accessory breast removal

18th April 2022 by Rebecca Bisset 3 Min Read

When it comes to dressing up, everyone wants to look and feel their best; there might be some areas on our bodies we might not be as comfortable with. Take, for example, armpit fat or accessory breast glands, which might affect your self-confidence – especially when wearing sleeveless tops.

Armpit fat and accessory breast gland – what are they?

Armpit fat is undoubtedly one of the most common areas of stubborn fat, seen more commonly in women than men. There are several reasons why it is formed, with diet, body shape, fat deposition and genes being some of the factors.

However, the accessory breast gland (picture above) is medically known as polymastia. Breast tissue develops along the milk line in normal development, but sometimes, additional tissue disintegrates into the body, resulting in polymastia. In short, an accessory breast gland is excess breast tissue that is outside the breast area.

Why armpit fat and accessory breast glands don’t respond to non-surgical fat removal

Most people may think that the armpit is a relatively small and easy area to treat, but it’s more complex than that. As it is, it’s already resistant to dieting and exercising, let alone non-surgical fat reduction treatment such as fat freezing, but the area may also involve more than just stubborn fat.

The area also has the potential to carry accessory breast glands and patients are also concerned about loose armpit skin.

The solution to armpit fat and accessory breast gland removal

Some say that fat freezing will work on removing or reducing armpit fat – but it will take several sessions to see visible results or no results. The treatment, which costs about $500 per body area in Singapore, sees common side effects, including pain and swelling. Some patients even report paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (PAH), where fat cells on the treated area expand instead of shrinking. So, what’s an effective alternative?

According to an American Journal of Roentgenology article, proven methods of armpit fat removal are liposuction. In Singapore, Dr Ivan Puah of Amaris B. Clinic performs liposuction with the MDC-Sculpt® Lipo technique, a body sculpting method he combines with vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance (VASER). When performed in the axillary (armpit) area, it can permanently remove excess and stubborn fat, contour the area smoothly and enhance skin retraction.

This approach, when coupled with the technological advancement of VASER, yields not just permanent armpit fat removal, but also a sculpted physique for the patient, tailored to the patient’s unique body shape.

You can expect the final result to be natural-looking – with minimal scarring. The best part is that the localised treated fat is permanently removed via liposuction and results can be well-maintained if the patient maintains a healthy lifestyle.

Accessory breasts glands can be removed successfully with another form of surgical approach – axillary glands excision, as this area does not respond to liposuction or any non-surgical treatment.
