In a bid to look younger and fresher, many of us spend a fortune on beauty treatments, gym memberships and organic food. The truth is, if you’re on a real health kick, one of the quickest ways to look and feel your best again is with an alcohol detox. Now, we know that cutting back on cocktails isn’t the first thing that springs to mind when you think of looking and feeling younger, but stay with us. Ever taken a look in the mirror after a night on the town? Aside from the hangover, a puffy face, bleary eyes and blotchy skin are all telltale signs of heavy drinking. Over time, it’s been proven that too much booze can speed up our skin’s ageing process, causing permanent premature wrinkles and sagging due to a loss of collagen.
Helping others quit drinking is something that Janet Gourand, founder of World Without Wine – a company that runs alcohol detox workshops – is extremely passionate about. A British-born expat who moved to South Africa in 2003, Janet found that her expat lifestyle led her to drinking too much wine, which she worried could damage her health. “My wake-up call came in 2006 when I developed breast cancer. That’s when I knew I would have to change my relationship with alcohol,” she says.
When looking around for support, though, she felt there was a lack of options, and she didn’t feel she needed to go to an AA session. “That’s when my background in HR, training and development inspired me to create a workshop to connect people facing similar alcohol issues – a space for people who wanted to ‘pull back’ before they developed a serious problem.”
Learn to quit alcohol for good on 14 July
Over the last three years, Janet has been helping individuals cut their alcohol dependency through World Without Wine workshops in South Africa. Now, we’re excited to reveal that she’ll be travelling to Singapore to host one of her acclaimed workshops! The event will be held on 14 July, and run from 10am till 4pm.
What to expect from the day? You’ll be guided through a reflection on your relationship with alcohol, pick up a “toolkit” to help you moderate or even quit drinking altogether, and meet other people with similar issues. So, if you want to cut your alcohol dependency, freshen up your looks and get your energy and sparkle back, this is an event not to be missed!
If you need more convincing, just check out the before (Day 1) and after (Day 30) images of World Without Wine attendee Nicola, who was originally drinking more than the recommended safe limit of 1.5 bottles of wine a week.
