From yoga and sound healing to food-focused wellness workshops, here are the kinds of experiences you can expect from the upcoming AIA Glow Festival in Singapore.
What is the AIA Glow Festival?
The AIA Glow Festival is a weekend wellness festival aimed at promoting all-around wellness. The first edition in 2019 united over 15,000 participants with holistic wellness activities for the mind, body ad soul. This included everything from from classes taught by global yoga sensations, meditation workshops and inspirational talks to live music, gourmet food and pampering.
With the 2020 edition cancelled due to COVID-19, Glow got creative during a difficult time, taking a more intimate approach to continue to inspiring holistic wellness. In partnership with Singapore Tourism Board, it launched Glow-On; this curated mini-event series was dedicated to inspire healing and rejuvenation here in Singapore when it’s needed the most. Each mini-event featured local wellness gurus and was held at iconic landmarks around the island.
While these pilot events were invite-only, they served as a preview of what’s to come at the next festival – oh, and a beacon of hope that Singapore will once again have in-person events happening!
What to expect from the 2021 wellness festival
Centred around food, yoga and mindfulness, AIA Glow Festival 2021 will bring together wellness leaders to create immersive, mindful experiences. Scheduled for late 2021 (watch this space for details!), the festival will feature more intimate sessions in a modular-based format, and at awesome locations. Here’s a sneak peek of the kind of wellness experiences you can expect:
#1 Yin Yoga
Beginners and seasoned yogis alike will want to give this one a go! Focused on meditation and grounded in the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, Yin Yoga supports organs that are weighed down by stress. Considered a more meditative approach to yoga, poses in Yin Yoga are held for longer periods of time to stimulate the channels of the subtle body known as meridians.
While you can expect to experience Yin Yoga at the festival, in the meantime, you can give it a try with this 30-minute Yin Yoga session led by Pure Yoga’s Gabrielle Mendoza, as part of the Glow-On wellness series.
#2 Mixology workshop
Glow believes that wellness is a holistic lifestyle experience. And, that includes cocktails, obviously!
Glow-On teamed up with award-winning mixologists from Singapore’s top cocktail bars for a special gin cocktail masterclasses – one by Laut Bar’s Kye Seng and another by Madame Fan’s June Baek featuring Compendium Spirits. You can check out the workshops here, and look forward to trying your hand at other cocktail creations at the 2021 festival.
#3 SCULPT Yoga
If fast-paced yoga is more your thing, you’ll be excited to try SCULPT Yoga, which takes you through a series of advanced yoga poses and creative sequence that match music to movement and breath. You’ll push your stamina and strength to the limit with a combination of yoga, resistance interval training and cardiovascular exercises. Try it in advance with this 20-minute online SCULPT yoga workout led by Bebe Ding, co-founder and master instructor of CRU.
#4 Sound healing
You’ll definitely want to experience sound healing for yourself at the upcoming wellness festival. In the meantime, inspire your inner peace and calm with this multi-sensory experience, led by Sound Therapy practitioner, Wendy Lum. She uses Sound Healing instruments like the Crystal Lyre and the 360-degree revolving Gong to create powerful vibrations to relax the body and mind.
#5 Mindful eating workshop
Of course, nutrition is a key factor in the holistic wellness journey. So you can bet you’ll be enjoying some delicious and nutritious food! Plus, you’ll have a chance to learn about mindful eating, and hear from COMO Shambhala nutritionist Tiffany Wee about how to incorporate it into your daily life.
So, what exactly is mindful eating? It’s an approach to eating that draws on mindfulness – a practice that involves developing self-awareness. Mindful eating involves understanding what you’re eating and why. This way, you make conscious choices, and learn to understand how foods make you feel physically and mentally. You can discover which foods actually give you pleasure, and renew your sense of appreciation and satisfaction while eating.
A sleepover for the senses
A staycation with yoga and sound healing? Sign us up!
Ahead of the festival, there will be a special wellbeing sleepover experience at Four Seasons Hotel Singapore, in partnership with COMO Shambhala. Again, you’ll need to watch this space for further details as they become available; but one thing we do know is that the wellness sleepover (open to the public) will include a one-night stay with room service breakfast, a sound healing 360 gong session with Wendy Lum, and outdoor qigong and yoga with instructor Sarah Manning.
