Spending exorbitant amounts on substandard furniture and home décor is annoying. Here are some furniture stores where you can get pieces that are long-lasting and adaptable (for example, a table, chair and storage all in one!). Affordable means different things to different people, and it’s not necessarily cheap – but we think they are value for money. You definitely don’t want to be buying replacements in a year or two.
Just Anthony
Just Anthony is having a massive clearance at the moment, and it’s very affordable anyway! Specialising in Chinese antique furniture, the store stocks an impressive selection of both reproduction and antique pieces. Their Oriental-style accessories include lamps and lights, art, wall hangings, screens and room dividers. We always love popping in to see what’s new!
Get your hands on one of their seven-drawer consoles (from $1000), available in a variety of colours. They can be used in the bedroom, as a TV console with storage, a living room sideboard or even in the hallway.
We also love the hand-painted small round drums ($150 to $220). They come in a variety of colours and designs, and are ideal décor pieces or as a side table in your living or bedroom.
A tip from the store:
“Shop when there are special promotions on or during a sales period, like the Great Singapore Sale. We mark down a lot of items to make our sale attractive and also to clear some stock, as we receive monthly new shipments.”

Lim’s Holland Village
An old favourite for expats is Lim’s Holland Village. It carries a range of stylish modern furniture and accessories with a hint of Asian influence, as well as older pieces. With the understanding that no two homes are the same, the company offers pieces that are made to adapt to different settings.
We love the store’s tough and durable elm-wood furniture collection that includes the turquoise shoe cabinet ($1050), with four levels of shelving, offering ample storage space for the family.
A tip from the store:
“Adorn your room with this painted panel screen (from $650). Ideal either as a piece of artwork or a handy room divider, it comes in more than six design styles.

Soul & Tables
Soul & Tables carries décor and furnishings that are both beautiful and sustainable.
A tip from the store:
“If an affordable piece of furniture comes with additional costs for every after-sales service, it’s not so affordable after all. That’s why we offer complimentary delivery, warranty and maintenance on our beautiful and high-quality furniture – we’re all about our customers’ experience.”

Grey and Sanders
Grey and Sanders offer a range of trendy minimalist furniture that you can get customised for the perfect fit. The pieces are made of quality materials such as Italian leather and American black walnut wood.
Tip from the store:
“Apart from looking at the price tag, check out the material of the product. There’s no real saving if the furniture is made of inferior material and doesn’t last very long. Our products are made of quality materials and made to last.”
