Finding outdoor furniture to withstand Singapore’s hot and wet climate, without compromising on style, can be tricky. Expat Living asked five readers to recommend their favourite outdoor furniture store.

“We needed to furnish a small porch and poolside area. Our main challenges were limited space and a tricky layout.
From the start, we knew that whatever we bought had to be able to withstand wear and tear from the three Smith kids – Molly (14), D’Arcy (11) and Lily (7) – and their friends.
The Medan round dining table and five matching chairs that we bought from D’Galleria were a perfect fit for the porch. We also decided on a Bali L-shaped sectional outdoor sofa as it gives us extra lounging space around the pool when we have guests over. Being able to sit next to the pool while watching rugby is a nice bonus!
Our best tip would be to measure twice and allow some leeway, just in case. We found that showing the staff a photo of the area we wanted to furnish was a big help.”

“We were looking to create a relaxing area for lounging and entertaining on our decked outdoor area.
Besides ensuring ample seating, I also wanted to leave enough open space where the children could play. Finding a balance between aesthetics, practicality and budget was a challenge. I compromised by buying the essentials first, then using the space for a while before deciding what was missing.
We bought a four-seater sofa, two lounge chairs and a coffee table from OHMM’s Mantra range. To complement the set, we included two Rausch summer lounge chairs with a matching coffee table, and two Equinox dining armchairs that can be moved around for additional seating as required. My two children, Amber (11) and Ganden (9), particularly love to lounge on the Dune daybed from the Barlow Tyrie range when they are not rollerblading on the deck.
I decided to mix the ranges for a varied look. It’s helpful to know that OHMM can do customised pieces and waterproof covers. I’m considering having a box made to house the cushions and covers.”

“We live in a large house on Sentosa Cove and had plenty of outdoor space to furnish: a roof terrace and bar, pool area and outdoor dining area.
We have a toddler, so the house needs to be child-safe and functional. The spaces are large and we did not want the furniture to look too small or out of place. We also wanted it to blend in with the blue of the water and the green of the foliage around the house.
We bought plenty of furniture from Teak & Mahogany, from large modular furniture, including two armchairs and a storage trunk for the poolside area, to a 10-seater Firenze table and chairs and large umbrellas to provide adequate shade.
Owners Kris and Suzan were enormously helpful and flexible in helping us create our ideal paradise and gave great advice on configuration and colour options. They were also very happy to let us try out an array of different furniture in the various outdoor spaces to find the best fit.”

“We have a big terrace outside our living room that needed furnishing as we didn’t have enough furniture when we moved here from Dubai.
Kiara (3) and Oliver (1) have lots of friends whose parents are our friends too, so we wanted an area to host barbecues and parties for both adults and children. We could go back to live in the UK in a few years, so we want to get as much fun and sun as possible while we are here.
We bought a big sun umbrella, a large L-shaped sofa and a matching table from Woody Antique House. The umbrella is excellent in this sunny country and the white pillows remind me of a hotel where we stayed on a lovely family holiday.
It’s wise to do some research and take all the measurements before investing your money, as Singapore is quite expensive and there are plenty of shops to choose from. We bought a classic design that we can take along with us wherever life leads us next – hopefully it will be another sunny place!”
